Abstract: This study examines the effectiveness of C60 fullerenes as additives to improve lubricant performance in piston ring–cylinder liner tribological systems. Viscosity measurements of synthetic and fullerene-based oils were performed using a capillary tube viscometer under varying temperature and pressure. The data were incorporated into a CFD model of compression piston ring to assess friction, cavitation, and hydrodynamic pressure. Cavitation effects were also investigated and commented on. Results show that fullerene-enhanced lubricants retain higher viscosity at elevated temperatures and reduce friction force, enhancing engine efficiency and emission characteristics.
