Parametric Analysis of Window Parameters to Reduce Energy Consumption in hot dry climate: A Step forward Zero Energy Buildings

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Energy situation in the world gets more complicated day after another, which requires us to rethink the current policies of utilizing energy. Excessive use of energy has led to issues like the possibility of sources depletion, increased carbon emissions, urban heat islands ...etc. Since construction industry is a flourishing business sector, it consumes energy voraciously. Zero Energy Building (ZEB) concept came to the surface as an effort to eliminate or decrease side effects of high energy consumption. ZEBs are facilities that obtain as much energy as they consume, which makes them the primary objective for energy safety seekers. To achieve a ZEB, designers must reduce energy consumption in the facility as a first step. This article examines the effect of different window aspects in reducing energy consumption, relying on parametric analysis. In other words, lowering energy consumption through parameters including: WWR, glazing type, and shading devices in different orientations. Results illustrate that careful design of window parameters can achieve 17% saving in energy.
