Exact parametrization of a minimal seesaw model

Type: article
Abstract: We propose a parametrization of neutrino masses and mixing in the minimal seesaw model (MSM). The MSM, which introduces two heavy sterile neutrinos, is the minimal extension of the Standard Model in addressing the tiny masses of active neutrinos. The parametrization includes 11 free parameters: six neutrino oscillation parameters (two mass-squared differences Δ m 21 2 , Δ m 31 2 three mixing angles θ 12 , θ 13 , θ 23 , and one Dirac phase δ C P ), one mass parameter in 0 ν 2 β decay m e e , and four additional parameters: two heavy neutrino masses M 1 and M 2 , one active-sterile mixing angle θ 14 , and one C P -violating phase δ 14 . This parametrization is derived exactly from the most general neutrino mass matrix in the MSM without any approximation. We further discuss its implications in phenomenological studies.
