A Chromosome-level genome assembly of the black ant Formica fusca

Year: 2025
Type: data-paper
Abstract: Formica fusca is an ideal model organism for investigating social behaviour and chemical communication in insects. Here, we present the first high-quality chromosome-level genome assembly of F. fusca, generated using PacBio HiFi sequencing and Hi-C scaffolding technologies. The resulting genome assembly spans 535.26 Mb, is anchored to 27 chromosomes, and achieves a scaffold N50 of 20.27 Mb. This assembly comprises 368.74 Mb of repetitive elements and 13,269 protein-coding genes. The chromosome-level genome assembly of F. fusca provides a valuable genomic resource to facilitate studies on insect social organization and the molecular basis of ant social behaviour.
