Abstract: Nomathemba Chandiwana and colleagues (October, 2025)1 underscore that global health policy has faltered in recognising obesity as a disease and tackling its stigma. A crucial effect of such stigma is the erosion of social health through reduced social connection.2 Obesity is one of many visible diseases, where the intersection of stigma and health-related effects is particularly prominent.
