Abstract: Lake Shkodra, between Albania and Montenegro; Lake Ohrid, between Albania and North Macedonia; and the two Prespa Lakes that span the borders of Albania, North Macedonia and Greece, together form the largest lake complex in Europe in terms of habitats, species and genetic diversity. This paper presents the unique characteristics that sustain the stable and resilient condition of each lake, as well as one of their most important features: the diversity of their fish populations.
