Del insulto como gesto glotopolítico y sus modos de regulación discursiva
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This article reconstructs a verbal confrontation between two Colombian public figures that was broadcast on a digital talk show. It focuses on the type of discursive regulation that insults evoke when serving political purposes. The interpretive methodology is based on a glottopolitical approach to discourse analysis, which focuses on the semiotic dimension of public political events, their regulations, and functions. The results explore the type of semiotic action that insults perform within the context of rhetorical tradition. The public exchanges that insults provoke are analyzed, as well as the manner in which they are controlled through “dialectical regulations.” Ultimately, it is concluded that when insults take the form of a glottopolitical gesture, they deploy conservative sociolinguistic representations about public debate and disagreement.
