Abstract: This article considers the contributions of Eleanor Leacock’s Dialectical Anthropology article of 1983, in which she lays out a pathbreaking position on how we can study the origins of gender inequality. It shows how her previous work led up to this article and considers its reception in its own time and its enduring legacy.
