Abstract: Does the same theory of welfare apply to all welfare subjects? In a recent article, Eden Lin argues that it does. Here, I present a set of objections to Lin’s arguments and defend the opposing view. Along the way, I discuss what counts as a basic good for a welfare subject and how to assess the generality and simplicity of an axiological theory.
