Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: Background: Hypotension throughout dialysis is a prevalent complication of hemodialysis and is related to a rise in case mortality morbidity.Aim: To clarify the role of echocardiographic parameters in predicting intradialytic hypotension (IDH) in hemodialysis cases.Patients and methods: This cross-sectional research was performed on sixty cases with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) on regular hemodialysis three times per week. All patients were collected from the El-Zahraa University Hospital Nephrology Unit. Results: A statistically significant variance was observed among both groups regarding medical history, heart failure, and ischemic heart disease history. Ejection fraction was significantly increased within the control group, with statistically significant variance among both groups. All parameters of Echocardiography, which are left ventricular end-systolic volume, left ventricular end-diastolic volume (LVEDV) index and left atrial volume index (LAVI), demonstrate a statistically significant variance among both groups, p-value= 0.008, <0.001, and <0.001, respectively. Meanwhile, the mid-portion diameter of the right ventricle (Mid RV) shows no statistically significant variance among either group. A statistically significant variance was observed among the two groups regarding the early diastolic mitral annulus velocity. Conclusion: The echocardiographic evaluation might be a predictive tool for hypotension throughout dialysis.
