Mapping stunting risk among families in Pulang Pisau using PK-23: A descriptive analysis
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Introduction: Stunting remains a priority public health issue in Indonesia, representing chronic undernutrition that affects children's physical and cognitive development. Pulang Pisau Regency, Central Kalimantan, has a high prevalence of families at risk of stunting. Data-driven mapping strategies are essential for accurately identifying high-risk households and designing targeted interventions.Aim of the study: This study aims to conduct a descriptive analysis of stunting risk at the household level in Pulang Pisau Regency using PK-23 data.Subjects and Methods: A quantitative descriptive design was employed using secondary data from the PK-23 database. The study population comprised all families recorded across eight sub-districts. Categorical variables included drinking water source, sanitation type, education level, employment status, age of couples of reproductive age, parity, and pregnancy spacing. Results: The findings reveal that 22.52% of families relied on unsafe drinking water and 80.64% used unsafe sanitation. A total of 70.61% of respondents had only primary education. Although 95.25% of families were employed, disparities in sanitation and education persisted. High parity (16.23%), high-risk reproductive age (15.07%), and short pregnancy spacing (12.43%) were significant contributors to stunting risk. Conclusions: PK-23 data enables effective local-level stunting risk mapping. The results support evidence-based, targeted interventions to accelerate stunting reduction at the district level. Continued utilization of PK-23 data is crucial for designing adaptive and impactful public health policies.
