Abstract: During recent years in European countries, including Poland, increasing involvement in sport and physical activity is observed. The article tackles the problem of identifying the key determinants of participation in sport and physical activity. Using individual data from the Polish research participation in sport and recreation and the household budget surveys the impact of individual social, demographic and economic characteristics are estimated on sports and recreational activity. Characteristics such as age, education as well as a per capita income in the household are key determinants of the participation in sport.
