Computing the Importance of Schema Elements Taking Into Account the Whole SCHEMA
Year: 2009
Type: dissertation
Abstract: Conceptual Schemas are one of the most important\nartifacts in the development cycle of information systems.\nTo understand the conceptual schema is essential\nto get involved in the information system that is described\nwithin it. As the information system increases\nits size and complexity, the relative conceptual schema\nwill grow in the same proportion making di cult to understand\nthe main concepts of that schema/information\nsystem.\nThe thesis comprises the investigation of the in\nuence of\nthe whole schema in computing the relevance of schema\nelements. It will include research and implementation\nof algorithms for scoring elements in the literature, an\nstudy of the di erent results obtained once applied to a\nfew example conceptual schemas, an extension of those\nalgorithms including new components in the computation\nprocess like derivation rules, constraints and the\nbehavioural subschema speci cation, and an in-depth\ncomparison among the initial algorithms and the extended\nones studying the results in order to choose those\nalgorithms that give the most valuable output.
