Abstract: The literature on the taxonomy and biology of Botrytis spp., the diseases they cause, and their control is vast and I have covered only a small part of it here. I have selected for annotation what I consider to be the more informative papers that give leads into one or more of several fields. Others, no less important but not discussed here, are listed in an appendix in such a way as to link them with a computer-filed bibliography on the genus (Jarvis and Topham: Bull. Br. Mycol. Soc. 8: 37. 1974). The appendix also includes papers inadvertently omitted from this review and those that appeared after the text had been completed in December 1974.
