Abstract: This report contains a description of a literature search that was performed during the fITst eight months of a Ph.D. project on housing for the independently living elderly.This four year project, that started in October 1993, is supported by the Institute for Gerontechnology (Eindhoven University).This report focuses on the theoretical backgrounds of the interaction between the elderly individual and hislher home environment.Based on this literature search, decisions were made concerning the direction and goals of the research project.The sequal to this work was a paper that was presented at EDRA 1995.The title of this paper, consisting of a theoretical discussion and a description of the fITst pilot study, was 'Adaptation, problem solving and design of the home environment by elderly people' .
