Abstract: The integration of transportation and land use planning represents a critical opportunity to create healthier, more sustainable, and more equitable communities across Minnesota. As our urban areas continue to grow, there is increasing recognition that transportation systems and land development patterns are intrinsically linked, each influencing the other. Research shows that the built environment significantly influences public health outcomes, from cancer risks and air quality to physical activity levels and access to essential services. Current conditions reveal a complex landscape where transportation infrastructure shapes development patterns while land use decisions affect travel behavior and transportation needs.
