Redefining Adolescent Social Interaction in the Digital Era: A Sociological Analysis of Social Media Use Among Indonesian Youth
Year: 2025
Type: preprint
Abstract: This study examines how social media has reshaped the social interaction patterns of adolescents in Indonesia. Through a qualitative approach involving semi-structured interviews and non-intrusive observations, this research explores both the enabling and disruptive roles of digital platforms in adolescent socialization. Findings reveal that while social media facilitates new forms of communication, it simultaneously contributes to declining face-to-face interaction quality, increased emotional dependency, and altered perceptions of identity and self-worth. The paper emphasizes the importance of digital literacy, emotional resilience, and stakeholder collaboration in navigating the complex realities of adolescent life in a digitally connected society.
