Abstract: This article is an attempt at a more profound reflection upon the conditions of professional development of teachers in Poland in the context of the currently ongoing education reforms. It discusses both the opportunities and threats concerning professional development that result from formal changes and the so-called by-products of professional activity/being an educator.
