TRANSIT: Empowering Sustainable Energy Futures through Innovative Education and Grid-Integrated Roadmap Development
Year: 2024
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: The urgent need for renewable energy adoption to address climate change and reduce fossil fuel reliance is hindered by significant skill gaps in areas like energy storage and grid management. This paper aims to highlight the importance of education and reskilling to overcome these challenges and accelerate the transition to renewable energy systems. Key findings from surveys show high awareness of renewable energy benefits but limited engagement, particularly in industry sectors. Critical skill gaps were identified in areas such as demand-side management and sustainability. Industry-academia collaboration was highlighted as essential for closing these gaps, although obstacles like inadequate training infrastructure and policy support remain. In conclusion, expanding targeted educational programs and enhancing policy support are vital to address these skill gaps. The TRANSIT project, funded by Horizon Europe, provides a strategic roadmap for sustainable energy training and workforce reskilling, aiming to bridge the gap between current industry needs and future energy demands.
