Narcissistic (Personality Disorder) and Guilt

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: This article aims to examine the correlation between narcissism and emotions of guilt, as well as the distinctions in this connection between the sensitive and grandiose aspects of narcissism. Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is a psychological condition marked by an individual's inflated sense of self-importance, incessant pursuit of adulation, and absence of empathy. This illness may influence persons' perception and experience of guilt. Narcissistic persons often disregard the repercussions of their actions and evade accountability. Consequently, it is evident that those exhibiting narcissistic traits experience little or no guilt. This circumstance might engender difficulties in social connections and increase the individual's propensity to display detrimental behaviors. This research aims to elucidate the correlation between narcissistic personality disorder and guilt, while also investigating the social and psychological ramifications of this interplay. The Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI) scale was used for this aim. A survey research was conducted in 2024 with the phrases narcissism, NPI (narcissistic personality disorder), and shame guilt. The relationship between narcissistic personality disorder and guilt was analyzed, along with the challenges faced in treatment methodologies stemming from these findings.
