Pioglitazone Matrix Patches: In Vitro Methodologies And Efficacy Assessment - A Review
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Pioglitazone, an oral antidiabetic drug, has limited bioavailability due to extensive first-pass metabolism. Matrix-type transdermal patches offer a promising alternative for drug delivery. This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of in-vitro studies, methodologies, and assessments of matrix-type transdermal patches containing pioglitazone. We discuss the formulation development, characterization, and evaluation of these patches, including in-vitro release, permeation, and skin irritation studies. The review also highlights the advantages and challenges of using pioglitazone in transdermal patches and identifies areas for future research. Our comprehensive analysis provides valuable insights for researchers and formulation scientists working on transdermal drug delivery systems, particularly for pioglitazone.
