Type: article
Abstract: BACKGROUND: The Purpose of this study was to assess the role of golden face proportion as an indicator of facial aesthetics in student population. OBJECTIVES: 1.To determine the physiognomic height and width of Face among study population. 2. To identify individuals with long, normal and short Face. 3.To determine if there are significant differences in the measurements among genders. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This observational study involved 116 students aged 18-25 from Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences in Bangalore, comprising 84 females and 32 males. Facial proportions were assessed using vertical and horizontal measurements in centimeters, taken with a ruler. The study compared proportions relative to the golden ratio.. RESULTS: The facial analysis evaluated measurements such as vertical length from the top of the head to the chin, bizygomatic width, and the distances from trichion to intercanthal line, intercanthal line to subnasale, and subnasale to menton. Results showed that females had significantly longer faces than males with Horizontal Method-1, though no difference was found using the Vertical Method. Males had a significantly higher golden proportion with Horizontal Method-2, while females had a higher proportion using the Vertical Method. CONCLUSION: It is imperative to state that the golden proportion is not a definitive factor in determining an individual's beauty or handsomeness. Individual perceptions demonstrated a disconnect between the perception of beauty and the golden proportion. Further studies with larger sample sizes are necessary to explore this relationship further.
