Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Tribal women’s role in the economy, politics, and local decision-making is an important issue that needs attention. In the past, tribal women faced unfair treatment that kept them out of important decisions. Now, as people recognizewomen’s rights more, there’s a push to involve tribal women in local government. This helps make sure their ideasare heard when making and carrying out policies. It can also make the government more honest and better atmeeting the needs of groups that are often left out. Tribal women join local government less than other groupsbecause of problems like lack of education, few resources, cultural rules, and unfair treatment based on gender andethnicity. This means their voices often aren’t heard in important decisions. Recently, there have been efforts to getmore tribal women into local government. But there’s still a lot of work to do to make sure tribal women can takepart as much as other groups. This paper examines how tribal women take part in local government and thedifficulties they encounter.
