Abstract: Summary. In an era of constant change and adaptation to environmental challenges, biodiversity conservation is becoming a global priority. The globally implemented biodiversity assessmentmechanism plays a crucial role in this fight. Aware of the importance of preserving natural diversity,Moldova has adopted the biodiversity assessment mechanism as an integral part of its internationalenvironmental commitments. This initiative, which has been incorporated into national legislation,reflects a growing global concern to maintain ecological balance and conserve natural resources forthe benefit of future generations. In order to identify and manage potential threats to biodiversity andto focus assessment efforts on activities that pose a significant risk to biodiversity, we propose ananalysis of the scope of the biodiversity assessment mechanism.Key words: biodiversity assessment, Habitats Directive, Emerald Network, Natura 2000, sustainable development, environmental protection
