Originality of modern dramatic dialogue (based on the play "Overhaul" by Semyon Vyatkin)
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: The article addresses features of modern dramatic speech. The study is based on the play “Overhaul” by one of the modern playwrights Semyon Vyatkin. The research focuses on the leading compositional and speech zone of the dramatic work, i.e. on the characters’ speech manifestations, which appear to be the main source of information for the addressee about the character’s linguistic personality in particular, and about his personality in general. The most significant for the author's concept embodiment are those parts of the dramatic dialogue that have the form of a polylogue. It should be pointed out that the playwright’s opportunities for expressing his own position are very limited. The analysis of these fragments enables to identify the set of intentions of a particular character, including the hidden ones, and in this way to shape a general view of his communicative strategy. The characters’ lines in the polylogue a priori acquire multidirectionality, which, on the one hand, creates opportunities for a polyphonic presentation of the characters to the addressee. On the other hand, it brings into the open the communicative features of the speech material used by the characters, i.e. words, expressions, statements in general.
