Abstract: The appraisal on the role of religion in the management of communal conflict in Otukpo Local Government Area is research carried out on the prevalence of communal conflict in Otukpo local government of Benue state. This research addresses the circumstances that arise when the government of a state handles communal conflicts in a manner that decreases the risk of continued violence. The research is carried out with the aid of questionnaires and oral interviews to obtain information to draw up conclusions and form the basis of recommendations. The research intends to find the intervention effort of the government in reaction to communal conflict and the role of religious bodies in solving communal conflict where the government's effort has failed. It is argued that the state needs to be both capable and willing to fulfill a constructive conflict management role since the state has failed; the work shall now recommend unbiased interventions that are associated with a decreased risk of continued conflict to tackle communal conflict. The research will further seek the need for training in conflict resolution for social workers, primary health care workers, development workers, teachers, and other people involved in community-type work. This would engender invaluable and positive post-conflict healing.
