Global synchronization of atomic oscillations in a crystal lattice using an external magnetic field: a new approach to enhancing radiation resistance.

Type: article
Abstract: In this work, for the first time, the possibility of global synchronization of atomic oscillations (phonons) throughout the entire volume of a crystal under the influence of an external resonant magnetic field is investigated. If the atoms in the material oscillate coherently (with a single frequency and phase), disturbances caused by high temperatures and radiation do not lead to an avalanche-like accumulation of defects. Instead, the energy of the external field is redistributed in the form of a coherent wave, which can contribute to the "scattering" or recombination of point defects. We present a theoretical model based on magnetostrictive interaction, demonstrate analytical estimates of threshold conditions for the onset of the synchronous regime, and discuss possible numerical verifications using molecular dynamics. It is shown that using the energy of the thermonuclear reactor itself to generate the required magnetic field can significantly increase the service life of structural materials through global phonon synchronization.
