Abstract: This article discusses the importance of integrating mother tongue and reading lessons in primary school with elements of media literacy. The author argues that in an era of rapidly evolving information technologies, it is crucial for young learners to acquire not only foundational literacy skills but also the ability to critically analyze, filter, and ethically use digital content. Drawing on international experiences (Sweden, England, Russia, France, Turkey, Germany), the paper highlights innovative teaching methods, such as project-based mini-assignments, group discussions, and interactive tasks. These methods strengthen critical thinking, creativity, and awareness of netiquette and copyright issues. Ultimately, the integration of mother tongue and reading lessons with media literacy fosters pupils’ digital competence and cultural maturity from an early age.
