Exploring Student's Perception on Values Education Program

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This study explored education students’ perceptions of the Values Education major and how these views affected their choice of course. Using a qualitative, exploratory design and interviews, five main themes were found. Students first saw Values Education as a simple subject, but later understood its deeper meaning involving ethics, psychology, and philosophy. They saw it as important in helping future teachers become responsible and moral individuals, and valued it as much as other majors. Their views became more positive through real-life experiences, mentoring, and classroom learning. Some students chose the major because of personal interest, while others, even if they appreciated it, picked other courses because of practical reasons or beliefs that it was less important. Students suggested promoting the program through success stories, hands-on learning, mentoring, and curriculum changes. The study concludes that students’ changing views show the importance of Values Education in shaping good teachers and offer valuable suggestions to enhance the program’s impact and relevance.
