Tariffs as Desperation: How America's Hollow Factories and Fear of a Server Revolution Shape Its Policies

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This paper argues that U.S. tariff policies, often dismissed as populist or economically irrational, may actually represent a deeper strategic response to existential threats. It examines how America’s industrial hollowing and a looming server revolution — the decentralization of AI infrastructure — motivate protectionist actions. The silence of policymakers is reframed as strategic awareness, not ignorance. Tariffs, in this light, become rational acts of desperation aimed at preserving geopolitical influence and digital sovereignty in a rapidly changing global order.
