Blue Economy Development through Emerging Technologies in Nigeria Coastal Regions
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The Blue Economy encompasses the sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth, improved livelihoods, and jobs while fostering the health of ocean ecosystems. It holds significant implications for agricultural engineering, particularly in embracing innovative practices that enhance resource efficiency and environmental sustainability in aquaculture and coastal farming. This study focuses on emerging technologies that promise to optimize agricultural processes within the Blue Economy. Key technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), remote sensing, and automation play pivotal roles in transforming traditional practices into precision-driven methodologies. IoT enhances connectivity and data sharing among agricultural stakeholders, enabling real-time monitoring and decision-making, while AI applications streamline operations and predict agricultural outcomes. Remote sensing technologies provide critical data for precision agriculture, allowing for targeted resource application and environmental monitoring. The expected outcomes of integrating these technologies are substantial improvements in sustainability, operational efficiency, and economic growth within the agricultural sector of the Blue Economy. By optimizing resource utilization and reducing ecological footprints, these innovations can lead to enhanced food security and improved economic resilience for coastal communities. This study contributes to the field by providing a comprehensive overview of how these technologies can be strategically deployed to overcome existing challenges, thereby establishing a framework for sustainable development within the Blue
