Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This article analyzes Miguel Ángel Asturias’ literary work El Señor Presidente, which portrays a society living under a 20th-century Latin American military dictatorship. This fictional narrative reflects the political reality of Central America, where the concentration of power in the Executive branch and the fragility of institutions weaken democracy. These issues are the result of a long historical process that has fostered deep distrust in public institutions. Furthermore, the study explores how the Costa Rican democratic model serves as a lesson for the rest of the region
