Application of CRISPR-CAS9 Technology in Aquaculture
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: CRISPR/Cas9, a gene editing technology, plays a significant role in the development of aquaculture industry. The involvement of this technology led to the improvement of growth, disease resistance, reproduction, pigmentation, disease diagnosis and others. Compared to other genome editing methods, CRISPR/Cas9 is considered as a reliable method because of its cost effectiveness, designing of construct and limited off target effects. CRISPR/Cas9 technology has been applied in fishes such as Atlantic salmon, common carp, channel catfish, grass carp, sea bream and resulted in successful modifications of important traits. In addition, this technology also revealed the function of many genes which were unknown previously.
