Investigating the Impact of AI-Powered Cameras on Driving Behaviour and Accident Rates in Kerala, India
Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: -In Kerala, India, the implementation of AI-powered cameras to monitor traffic systems has become more widespread. This study investigates the impact of AI-boosted cameras on driving behavior and accidents in Kerala through in-depth analysis of several key objectives: Understanding Perception: The research explores how individual awareness surrounding smart cameras and AI shapes public perception of traffic safety. Exploring Distractions: The study examines the influence of age groups and distractions, such as mobile phone use, on accidents despite AI camera presence. Assessing Security Considerations: The research evaluates how public attitudes affect the effectiveness of public education campaigns regarding security considerations, security, and privacy of AI cameras. Analysis of Age Differences: This objective explores the effect of witnessing AI camera usage on traffic safety, considering the age of the observed population group. Exploring Awareness and Behavior: The study investigates the relationship between awareness of increased accidents and the resulting shift in driving behavior due to the presence of AI cameras. Understanding Safety Impact: This objective assesses the impact of age groups and religious beliefs (specifically Buddhism) on people's perceptions of the safety impact of AI cameras. Evaluating Fear of Detection: The research examines the association between the fear of being caught speeding (by AI cameras) and its influence on perceptions of AI effectiveness in reducing other traffic violations. The research aims to contribute valuable insights regarding the use of AI-enhanced cameras for traffic surveillance in Kerala. This will aid the state in understanding critical factors influencing driving behaviors and crash rates, ultimately informing policymaking and interventions to improve road safety.
