Equitable Digital Health Futures: Lessons from South Asian MIS Governance

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The shift toward resilient and equitable health systems in South Asia is being driven by digital infrastructure—particularly Management Information Systems (MIS). This research analyzes governance frameworks, interoperability challenges, and equity outcomes across India, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. Drawing on 450 facility surveys, 60 expert interviews, and global benchmarks (WHO, Digital Health Atlas, World Bank), the study identifies Sri Lanka’s centralized model as the most integration-ready, while India’s federal structure yields inconsistent MIS outcomes. Interoperability, governance, and workforce capacity emerge as pivotal for long-term resilience.
