NeoTerra Gastronomy Conceptualizing a Post-Local Culinary Identity
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This working paper introduces the concept of NeoTerra Gastronomy, a new framework for understanding culinary identities that emerge outside traditional geographic and cultural contexts. In contrast to place-based gastronomic tourism, NeoTerra Gastronomy is shaped by migration, urban hybridity, and digital culture. The paper explores how hybrid cuisines are formed and interpreted globally, and why it is crucial to distinguish them from origin-based food practices. This concept aims to inform future discourse in food tourism, cultural sustainability, and gastronomy studies.
