Abstract: The Sangam poets maintained good friendship with the kings. One of the qualities of friendship is to point out faults and eliminate them, and to prevent and avert them when they occur. This situation was handled by the poets who were friends with the kings. The poets were so deep in their friendship that they advised the king on what is true and what is not.
