Adaptive Reuse in Architecture: Scopus-based Bibliometric Analysis
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: In the context of sustainable development, adaptive reuse in architecture—which entails recycling existing structures for new purposes—has emerged as a crucial field of study and application. The scholarly literature on adaptive reuse in architecture is examined in this study using a bibliometric analysis based on Scopus. The study finds important topics, developments in the field, and prevailing research patterns by examining a large collection of articles published in recent decades. As key themes in adaptive reuse, the report emphasizes the growing interest in sustainability, heritage preservation, and urban renewal. Through quantitative methods, this study evaluates the evolution of adaptive reuse topics, the geographical distribution of research, the most frequently cited authors and journals, and the impact of various architectural methodologies in the context of adaptive reuse. The Scopus-based bibliometric examination of adaptive reuse in architecture shows rise in sustainability, urban regeneration, and heritage preservation research. The findings emphasize the relevance of adaptive reuse for environmental sustainability and urban revitalization. The findings emphasize the relevance of adaptive reuse for environmental sustainability and urban revitalization. Despite this progress, there remains a need for further exploration into the long-term performance of adaptive reuse projects, as well as the social and economic implications of repurposing buildings. This analysis serves as a foundation for future research directions, helping to shape the evolving landscape of adaptive reuse in architecture.
