Real-Time Face Detection and Counting Using MATLAB

Abstract: This paper presents a MATLAB-based system for real-time face detection and counting using the Viola-Jones algorithm via the vision.CascadeObjectDetector. The system supports two modes: live webcam detection and static image analysis. In both modes, detected faces are highlighted with bounding boxes and labeled sequentially, along with a total face count displayed on-screen. The live mode processes video frames in real time, allowing continuous face detection until manually stopped. The system demonstrates efficient and accurate performance, making it suitable for applications like surveillance and attendance tracking.
