Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: A Joint CS and ECpE Seminar at Iowa State University Abstract: This talk will discuss research software, including defining it and its importance in research, and explain what sustainability means for research software and what challenges it leads to. It will then use a software project (Pars) to examine some of the issues in more detail, followed by discussing some community activities aimed to addressing the challenges, including software citation, research software engineers (RSEs), the Research Software Alliance (ReSA), and FAIR for research software (FAIR4RS). It will provide a view of how a funder can support research software sustainability across a community, namely what the Consortium for the Advancement of Scientific Software (CASS) and CORSA project within it are doing related to DOE’s ECP software investment. The last part of the talk will discuss AI in research software.
