Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This study aimed to determine the moderating effect of support systems on the relationship between food preparation experience and confidence levels in culinary skills among high school students in Tagum City. Utilizing a non-experimental quantitative approach with a descriptive-correlational technique, data were gathered from 302 students selected through simple random sampling. A researcher-made and pilot-tested questionnaire ensured the reliability and validity of the instrument. Results showed that students demonstrated an extensive level of food preparation experience, particularly in terms of independence and variety, although cooking frequency was only moderately extensive. Students also reported extensive confidence in culinary skills, most notably in participation, presentation, and feedback reception. Support systems, especially family encouragement, were extensively manifested, while institutional and peer support were moderately extensive. A significant relationship was found between food preparation experience and confidence levels, with frequency and independence being the most influential factors. Furthermore, support systems significantly moderated the relationship between preparation experience and culinary confidence, enhancing the positive effects of hands-on cooking. These findings affirm the importance of reinforcing support networks in promoting culinary competence among students.
