AI: A Cure or a Curse? Reconceptualizing Authorship and Academic Integrity in the AI Era
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: In this presentation, I interrogate the epistemic and ethical crisis caused by the widespread use of generative AI in higher education. The work reimagines authorship, originality, and intellectual labor in the era of ChatGPT. It draws on interdisciplinary literature from philosophy, AI policy, and digital pedagogy, while situating the Global South as a necessary voice in the governance of AI ethics. Practical and conceptual insights are offered to educators, publishers, and policymakers on how to detect, verify, and responsibly adapt to the rise of AI-mediated scholarship as well as creating the consciousness of moving away from policing AI to teaching how to use it ethically.
