Consciousness from Free Will

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This paper presents a structural argument against determinism by showing that the universe, as a closed system, cannot simulate or compute its evolution with infinite precision. Drawing from chaos theory, thermodynamics, and information theory, it demonstrates that fixed physical laws cannot explain the sustained emergence of structure without violating known constraints. Instead, the universe unfolds through decentralized, self-organizing interactions. In this view, free will is not a human anomaly but a foundational mode of the cosmos, and consciousness arises as the optimized expression of that free unfolding. This framework redefines free will as a necessary structural feature of emergence and positions consciousness as its highest refinement—not an illusion, but an inevitable consequence of autonomy evolving under constraint.
