The Unseen Cost of Caring: Investigating the Effect of Occupational Stress on Sustainable Development in Teaching and Medical Professionals
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Mental health is a critical factor in sustainable development, particularly for teachers and doctors, whose well-being directly impacts education and healthcare systems. This study examines the effects of occupational stress on these professionals, revealing high burnout levels among teachers and medical practitioners. Findings indicate that 40.5% of doctors and 43 % teachers experience burnout, leading to reduced productivity, absenteeism, and compromised service quality. Additionally, mental health screening of 288 children aged 10–18 years highlights early indicators of psychological distress, further emphasizing the importance of mental well-being in shaping a sustainable future. The research underscores the need for institutional policies, psychological support programs, and systemic interventions to mitigate workplace stress. Strategies such as workload management, professional mental health services, and supportive work environments are essential for ensuring workforce sustainability and long-term societal progress. Addressing these issues through evidence-based policies can enhance educational and healthcare efficiency, reduce economic burdens, and foster overall sustainable development. The findings contribute to global discussions on mental health integration within sustainable development goals, reinforcing the urgency of workplace mental health interventions.
