Saproxylic water beetles of Poland
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The current state of knowledge regarding saproxylic water beetles in Poland is summarized, with particular emphasis on their biology. Four saproxylic water beetle species are found in Poland – Macronychus quadrituberculatus, Potamophilus acuminatus, Pomatinus substriatus, which are xylophages, and Prionocyphon serricornis, a saprophagous species that develops in dendrotelmata. It is proposed to treat the first two as indicator species of natural waters.
