Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This study explored Game-based education as a support tool in teaching Home Economics in the Division of Tagum City, Davao del Norte. There were eight (8) Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) teachers teaching Home Economics subjects who participated in the study. This study made use of a phenomenological approach to extract the ideas from the teacher informants. The participants were purposely selected as representatives from the group of secondary schools in the same division. The virtual in-depth interview and utilization of Google forms were employed to gather information. Using the thematic analysis, the following themes emerged regarding the work experiences of Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) teachers in utilizing game-based education as a support tool in teaching Home Economics. These were the following themes that emerged in the study, the active participation and engagement of the students, the application of technical skills, enhanced delivery of the lesson, and supported teaching styles. The challenges they have encountered in utilizing game-based education were the lack of gadgets and devices, difficulty in finding appropriate games and activities, low level computer literacy of teachers and students, limited time for preparation and suitability of the lesson. The insights drawn were the proper selection of games and activities, the willingness of the teachers to learn new skills, and the readily available gadgets and devices in school and in the classroom. With this, school personnels and stakeholders may help hand in hand for the adaptation of the study. Teachers may always be willing to learn and adapt to a more responsive teaching and learning for the benefit of the learners. The study could be adapted for use by other stakeholders such as parents, private schools and even the government. The study could further develop the DepEd’s current curriculum or even to craft a new one.
