International standard ISO25964-2: Information and documentation thesauri and interoperability with other vocabularies interoperability
Year: 2024
Type: book
Abstract: The terminology of information retrieval emerged from the pioneers in the 1960s and remained established until 1974 through the principles and practical guidelines for creating terminologies in the form of the international standard ISO 2788, as well as national standards such as ANSI/NISO Z39.19. Continuous updates to these rules recently led to the publication of ISO 25964, titled: Information and Documentation – Thesauri and Interoperability with Other Vocabularies – in two parts. The first part, named ISO 25964-1, was prepared in August 2011, and its Persian translation was published in 2011. The scope of ISO 25964-1 includes the content and structure of monolingual and multilingual thesauri, guidelines for using facet analysis in thesauri, management guidelines for the development and maintenance of thesauri, functional requirements for thesaurus management software, a data model, and a free XML schema available on a NISO-hosted website. The second part, named ISO 25964-2, addresses interoperability between thesauri and other vocabularies, starting from the draft of the international standard in 2012 and finally published on March 15, 2013. The principles and methods of mapping are its main topics. The content of this standard includes interoperability with classification schemes, classified vocabularies, subject heading schemes, ontologies, terminologies, lists of documented names, and synonym rings that represent a specific concept by listing all possible terms that can be used to convey that concept in text.
