Voices After the Virus: A Cross-National Analysis of Student Experiences During the COVID-19 Education Crisis
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted education systems globally, forcing millions of students into remote learning environments that reshaped their academic and emotional lives. This research paper presents a cross-national thematic and narrative analysis of over 200 survey responses from students across more than 20 countries, exploring how school life, learning, and mental health were affected during lockdown. Drawing from real and simulated student accounts, the study categorizes responses into emotional impact, academic disruption, and post-pandemic educational recommendations. Key insights include student burnout, screen fatigue, online exam cheating, but also moments of self-growth and a demand for AI-assisted personalized learning and hybrid classrooms. The paper concludes with student-generated reforms calling for emotionally intelligent, flexible, and tech-integrated school systems. Authored by a high school student from India, this paper serves as a reflective call for reform from the learners most affected.
