Differences in the application of the fat-free adipose tissue correction factor in body composition assessments in ketogenic diets in resistance trained participants

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Simple SummaryThe application of fat-free adipose tissue (FFAT) in protocols where fat-free mass (FFM) has been assessed in resistance-trained participants under a ketogenic diet prescription has not been evaluated in a review. The aim of this review is to adjust the FFAT in studies of this population.MethodsA review will be conducted to identify studies in resistance-trained subjects who have been placed on ketogenic diets and who have been assessed by dual-beam densitometry. The FFAT will be applied. Search strategy and sources of information The scientific literature search process was carried out using the free terms ((keto* AND diet*) OR “low-carbohydrate diet” OR (very lowhydrate diet)) AND (“body composition” OR “fat mass” OR “fat-free mass” OR “lean mass” OR “adipose tissue”) NOT (disease OR pregnancy* OR obese OR diabetes OR “metabolic syndrome” OR cancer) through the databases PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus and Web of Science. Body-size dependence of resting energy expenditure can be attributed to nonenergetic homogeneity of fat-free mass.
