Abstract: French physician Francois Bernier visited India during the late years of Emperor Shahjahan and witnessed the war of succession. He stayed in India for a long duration and have documented his experiences in his book Travels in the Mughal Empire. Present paper critically analyses his observations and interpretation of contemporary India.
